“But you don't look sick” are some of the most discouraging words to be heard by a person with an invisible illness. Most healthy people would think it's a compliment to be told you look great. However, to a person struggling with illness, it makes it even harder to know that healthy people do not really believe their struggles. Not only does the sick person have to battle with pain and functioning in daily living, but they have to do it with people falsely judging their character too. This is an injustice in our society that needs to change. This is why disability laws needed to be created; to protect the disabled from the healthy. Even churches scorn the sick by telling them they don't have enough faith, or they must have sin in their life. I have seen people judge me, only to find themselves in a similar situation down the road. The idea has crept into our society that those with illness are a burden. The devaluing of human life has become an epidemic. It has become increasingly difficult for people with illness to support themselves because most employers will not give them a chance to work and let them try to work around their health issues. Instead, employees with illness are seen as a difficulty that the business would rather avoid. The financial struggles along with the daily pain and struggle in living can be overwhelming.
If you are one of the many struggling with an invisible illness, know that you are valued, and your worth is beyond the value of money. Many others also struggle and understand your plight. I hope this website will be a place where you can find hope, help, and encouragement.

Although autoimmune illness is still somewhat of a mystery, there are mechanisms we understand that can give us a good place to start with recovery. The immune system will attack a person's cells when particles of molecules foreign to the body attach to them. The immune system then sees its own cells as foreign objects and tries to get rid of them.
One of the factors that can cause this malfunction comes from antibiotics. We are starting to learn that gut health is an important part of our overall health. When antibiotics are used, the good bacteria in our Biome are reduced to a level that causes an imbalance in our overall system. When this occurs, the immune system can also be thrown out of balance.
The first step in regaining system balance is to replenish our biome with the good bacteria that is needed for homeostasis. Probiotics are an important part of regaining that balance. The top factor in choosing a good probiotic is that it must be refrigerated. “biotics” means life. These are live bacteria and when they are not refrigerated, they don't live very long. The other factor is that everyone's biome is different. It is difficult to know the right bacteria needed to balance your system. So, the best probiotics to use are the ones that are multi strained. Probiotics labeled multidophilus, megadophilus, or a product labeled with multi strains are the best choice. This will ensure that your system gets the specific bacteria needed for your Biome, and it will dispose of the rest. These should be taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with water.
The second step in regaining system balance is to reduce yeast. Our biome is a combination balanced by bacteria and yeast. When bacteria are killed off by antibiotics, the yeast takes over. This is where much of the imbalance comes from. To reduce the level of yeast in the Biome requires a strict diet, at least for a time, because certain foods feed yeast. These foods are sugars, carbohydrates, and dairy products. If these foods are temporarily reduced or eliminated from the diet, the yeast levels will reduce. However, eliminating sugars from the diet can be difficult and should be done gradually to avoid causing dips or spikes in blood sugar levels. Many times, changing sugar intake to fruit is sufficient. The diet should include many vegetables, proteins, and healthy fats, to keep nutrition levels high.
Taking probiotic supplementation together with the diet will increase the bacteria levels, and the Biome can come back into balance. The time required for this process will be different for each person. For some people, this can take a couple of weeks, and others a few months. However, the results of a balanced Biome can be life-changing.
